You Can’t Master IM Until You Become a Good Communicator

When you are a beginner to online marketing, the field can seem very intimidating, particularly if you have no prior knowledge of the field. You’ve maybe already skimmed over a bunch of articles and forum posts that are full of information on how to be the next “big thing”. All of these lists are going to seem to negate each other. One list will say that becoming an IM success is all about being diligent. Being able to understand business is another claim frequently made by these lists. You’ll also find several that will say that you need to be very creative if you desire to succeed. And, of course, you can’t forget about all of the people saying that all you have to do is pay for their software program if you desire to be the next big name in online marketing!

Here’s the truth: The rest of these things are essential (not so much the software, but the others). You have to have patience, business savvy and creativity if you desire to achieve success. Of course, if you can’t intelligibly communicate with customers and clients, none of the rest of it will basically matter.

There is more to good communication than publishing an impressive sales copy. You can get a highly competent copywriter to do that for you. Good communication is more than having a stunning website with an extensive FAQ area. You can have a pretty site with an extensive FAQ section by employing seasoned web site designers and writers. Being good at communication calls for learning to handle interpersonal communication as well as your copy and site. So what should you do?

1. Reply to each e-mail you get in one day. This isn’t a joke. The email doesn’t have to be long. You can merely inform the person who emailed you that you’ve received and read his email and will be getting back to him soon. When you do this, try including a a portion of the sender’s e-mail. This helps the person you email tell your mail apart from the autoreplies that other Internet marketers employ.

2. Try not to let the telephone keep ringing. Don’t screen your calls. When your telephone starts ringing, pick it up by the third ring. Do this even if the Caller ID tells you that the call is from a person that you really do not wish to talk to. There is, nevertheless, an exemption to this rule. Don’t be anxious about being tied to your telephone aroudn the clock. Instead, simply schedule definite “business” hours during which you are available answer phone calls. Publish these hours on your site and in your voice mail message as well. And, of course, return phone calls if people were not able to reach you the first time.

3. Check with people to make sure that your messages and emails have actually been delivered. This demonstrates to them that you care about your communication with them. It will endear you more if you include something like, “Is there anything that I can be clearer about?” so that, if they have inquiries, you can answer them.
